The Story Behind What’s On KL?
What’s On KL? began out of pure frustration from Jamie. After moving back to KL he struggled to find information about events. After expressing this to Val in a random conversation, she told him about all the WhatsApp groups she was in to keep up with events. The question was asked:
“How would anyone possibly know about those Whatsapp groups if we didn’t have this random conversation about my frustrations?”
So a simple idea came about: to make it easier for people in Kuala Lumpur to discover the city’s best events, experiences, and hidden gems.
As longtime educators and creatives living in KL, we noticed how hard it could be to find reliable, up-to-date information in one place. So, we built the platform we wished existed — a space where locals, newcomers, and travelers alike could quickly see what’s happening right now in the city.

From small community gatherings to major festivals, What’s On KL? has grown into a trusted guide that connects people to the vibrant pulse of Kuala Lumpur. Behind the scenes, we’ve also streamlined the way content gets shared, building systems that make the process almost automatic while still keeping a human touch to ensure quality and care.
At its heart, What’s On KL? is about connection — helping people spend less time searching and more time enjoying all that KL has to offer.
