Nobu Kuala Lumpur Review: A Taste of Peruvian-Japanese Magic in Kuala Lumpur

Ever feel like your taste buds need a passport? Mine certainly did this evening, and Nobu Kuala Lumpur was just the ticket to a first-class, no-jet-lag journey!

Tonight, we embarked on a delectable adventure at none other than Nobu Kuala Lumpur, nestled within the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when Japanese precision dances with Peruvian zest, prepare yourselves, because Nobu is where that magic truly comes alive.

THE NOBU LEGACY: WHERE EAST MEETS ANDES

Let’s get this straight: Nobu isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a global phenomenon. Founded by the legendary Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, alongside none other than Robert De Niro (yes, that Robert De Niro!), and Meir Tempeh, this culinary powerhouse is famous for its groundbreaking blend of Japanese techniques and vibrant Peruvian flavours. Imagine trying to mix a samurai sword with a salsa dancer – sounds wild, right? But somehow, they’ve perfected it.

Tucked away on floor 4A, Nobu Kuala Lumpur has found its dazzling new home in the Shoppes at Four Seasons Place. It’s a bit like finding a hidden gem, only this gem is proudly sparkling right next to the Four Seasons, making it perfectly accessible for your next culinary escapade.

VALENTINE OMAKASE: A SYMPHONY OF FLAVORS

We were treated to their exclusive Valentine Omakase, a grand affair at RM900++ per person. And trust me, it was a love letter to our palates. This menu was a brilliant fusion of Chinese New Year celebratory treats and classic Valentine’s romance – a true testament to Nobu’s innovative spirit. We even kicked things off with a traditional Chinese New Year blessing, the Yee Sang, adding a delightful local touch to the international flair.

First up, the Mandarin Goji cocktail: a gin base with goji syrup and Absolut Mandarin. Smooth, citrusy, and a perfect palate primer. Then came the Taro Tartare with Caviar. Oh, my. This was delightful! The wasabi in the soy sauce gave it a slight tang, adding layers to the creamy, yet delightfully textured tartare. It was a creamy bite of heaven.

And the parade continued! We savored Madai Chipotle Mizu, the artistry of Nobu-style sushi, and a truly impressive Rice Paper Pillow with Shrimp – how the chef inflates that in the oven with the filling is beyond me, but it tastes phenomenal! Then came the Steamed Coral Grouper and the indulgent Smoked Wagyu Shokupan, leading up to the star of the show: A5 Wagyu with eel pepper sauce. Each dish was a masterpiece, perfectly executed.

The second cocktail, a Sidecar, was equally impressive. The harshness of the whiskey was beautifully mellowed by yuzu juice, making it incredibly pleasant and dangerously sippable. Seriously, if you’re a whiskey skeptic, this might convert you.

THE VIBE: IMPECCABLE SERVICE, UNFORGETTABLE SETTING

Beyond the exquisite food, the overall ambience at Nobu Kuala Lumpur was simply lovely. The music struck that perfect chord – loud enough to create a sophisticated buzz, yet soft enough for comfortable conversation. No shouting across the table, thank goodness! And the service? Impeccable. Our hosts, Saffron and Roza, made sure we were more than comfortable and, shall we say, ‘well-lubricated’ with delicious beverages.

Even as dishes floated past to other tables, the tantalizing aromas alone were enough to make me want to book a return trip immediately. There’s so much more to explore on their menu, and honestly, coming back multiple times to taste it all feels like a necessary scientific endeavor, wouldn’t you agree?
